What is Canvas?

Canvas is a digital tool designed to serve one single purpose, To streamline an interior designer’s workflow so that they can:

  1. Manage their design projects, tasks & timeline.
  2. Pitch for projects.
  3. Share designs and get feedback from customers.
  4. Co-ordinate with team members for tasks.
  5. Collect payments from clients.
  6. Handover final designs for execution.
Canvas sits between the interior designer and the home owner, exchanging colors, designs, time & quote, brief, feedback and payments

Business case

Due to a rapid growth of the company in terms of size and revenue, the number of interior designers have gone to 2000 across India. Each designer is able to handle 4-8 projects per month. This brings in new problems.

Problems

  1. Inconsistency in following the process following, inspite of training and documentation.
  2. Canvas itself is so open-ended and not guided in experience
  3. The experience doesn’t suffice many key usecases
  4. There are usability issues in many flows and make designers work difficult.

Business impact

  1. Directly on sales
  2. Time to project delivery
  3. Brand image in the customer’s mind
  4. Word of mouth publicity

Mapping task flows in Old Canvas app

An extensive study was conducted with interior designers to understand what steps go in each stage and mapped with how Canvas helps them achieve their tasks.

Solution

Project management UI - Canvas

Project management board is a Feature rich interface that lets designers know the status of their ongoing projects, take action on them or update their managers about their next steps.

For managers, Project management board provides exhaustive list of filters to look for any project in the past by applying various filter types.

All Projects workspace screen: sidebar with All Projects, Prospects, Pre 10%, 10-50% and 50% Done filters, next to the Active leads table of project name, status, project ID, SLA, age of project, scope, budget and last comments

Guided Workflow - Timeline feature

Project timeline is a feature designed not just to inform the client about the project status, but also to guide designers to be aware of what are the activities they should be doing in order to complete different stages of design. Designers are shown predetermined tasks based on project scope that they need to accomplish in order to complete different stages of their project.

Catalogue experience - Products

Catalogue page is essential for designers to discover, choose and add products from the catalogue to their interior design project. Usability of discovery through a structured navigation tree and filters were solved through this design.

Kitchen products catalogue with a category tree, brand filters and a grid of product cards (stove, chimney, oven) showing price and room size — annotated with Category Navigation and Advanced Filters callouts

Catalogue experience - Kitchens

Kitchen designs gallery filtered to My designs, with a budget histogram and room-size filters, and a product preview modal showing a Modern Parallel Kitchen design — annotated with Histogram and Product preview modal callouts

Task Board

A task management dashboard was designed for designers, managers and clients with a common view of a Gantt chart to be on the same page all the time. Tasks are assigned to different individuals, that has an expected date of completion.

Taskboard Gantt chart grouped by stage (Briefing, Proposal) with tasks, owners and status bars colour-coded upcoming, critical, attention, pending and done
